How did you meet?
We bumped into each other at a popular café or coffee shop on the campus of the University of South Carolina, where we both were attending graduate school. Evon was working on his Master’s in Health Care Administration while Savannah was obtaining her PhD in Biochemistry and Microbiology.
“The café was very crowded and seating was in short supply. Savannah was poised at the end of a long table surrounded by stacks of grade and ungraded papers, and fortunately for me, as it turned out next to her was the last empty space in the whole place. So I set my study materials a top the table and sat down beside her, no words were exchanged for quite a while. She was the first to break the silence. Savannah asked me to move. She was going up to the counter for another cup of coffee and needed to squeeze past me. I got up, she brushed past, but before she moved on, she turned back to look at me with those beautiful thoughtful looks that only she can give and asked if I wanted a refill too. I look down at my near empty coffee cup then back up at her. We both smiled and I said I’d go up with her, together. That’s how we met. That is how I eventually got a date with the love of my life.” – Evon
Engagement, proposal story:
We spent the weekend visiting Savannah’s parents in northwest Georgia (USA) and helping Savannah’s dad build an extended deck in their backyard. That same weekend we had some time to stop by one of the local jewelry stores that specializes in sapphires and unique design styles where we
picked out her ring with the perfect sapphire (color and sparkle) and ring setting with little to her knowledge. The ring was ready the following day. So, while Savannah and her dad were working on the deck, I was able to organize with her dad’s help to sneak away to “pick-up some additional supplies” from the home improvement that we needed to finish the deck. However, her dad, whom I had previously asked for his blessing, already had the supplies in the garage and set them aside for me to bring in after returning from picking up the ring. Therefore, I returned with the ring in my pocket and brought in the supplies that I was supposed to have picked up in from their hiding spot in the garage. As the sun was setting, Savannah and I decided to take a break and lay in the hammock together beneath a Cyprus and a loblolly pine. I decided then and there that I could no longer wait and I pulled out the ring that Savannah has unknowingly helped pick out with me and asked her to be my wife and to marry me.
Wedding theme/motif/what inspired your style:
Our wedding was inspired by nature and the beauty of the sea. Many elements were centered around the blue agate geodes that we used in our invitation design and as place cards for our guests.
How do you like to spend time together?
We like to spend time traveling and experiencing new places and/or things. Spending time with our 2 dogs, Charlie & Sweetie. Besides for work, we spend all our remaining time together and experiencing life together.
Your best moment/most expected moment:
The best moment was being able to walk to down the aisle on the beach with my dad at my side to marry the man of my dreams. We both cherished the love and support that we felt in that moment by all our closest family & friends that traveled with us to Belize for the week. We are extremely lucky and thankful to experience this!
Wedding song, explain choice for song:
We chose to the song “To Make You Feel My Love” by Adele. It captured our feelings that day and the promises that we made to one another upon the decision to marry each other.
Favorite Wedding Detail :
Our favorite wedding detail was by far the location. It was the perfect setting that we both had envisioned for our wedding ceremony. The intimate and small resort located on a secluded island located off the coast of Belize allowed us to invite only the closest family & friends that were influential in our lives, which made it that much more meaningful for both of us.
We also loved our photographer. During the early stages of planning, I spent weeks researching and speaking with various photographers around the world to find out the style and artistic details that we wanted to have for our photos. We were extremely lucky when we found Anna, who could capture our feelings and emotions in every photo. We are truly grateful to be able to cherish these memories and emotions for the rest of our lives in photo that are timeless and artistic!
Honeymoon or dream place to go:
Scotland to visit the Highlands and isles. We are planning to take this trip for our honeymoon in about a year after our destination wedding to ensure that we will have enough time to explore and take adventures.
How did the wedding go? What was the most emotional, best and describe your day to future brides.
Our wedding was absolutely perfect and more than we could have dreamed or envisioned! Despite not having every detail go as initially planned, the love and support of our closest family and friends in such a gorgeous setting allowed us to be able to exclusively focus on our feelings for one another and live in the moment. Therefore, after the night was over, we can remember the feelings/emotions and cherish those memories for the many years to come. This is what we ultimately aimed to achieve for our wedding and marriage to each other and we wouldn’t change a thing!
