Heather and Sergio – Fabulous wedding at the Priddis Golf Course

00045PINHow did you meet?: The story we were telling everyone was that we met through friends. The real story is we met on Tinder. We’re a Tinder success story!

Engagement, proposal story: After a long weekend in Vancouver we arrived home late from the airport. Sergio raced up the stairs the moment we got into the house. We had talked about getting engaged prior to our trip and I figured it would happen while we were away. There were so many beautiful opportunities, I couldn’t figure out what he was waiting for. Tired from the trip I headed up the stairs to bed just as Sergio was coming down. We met on the landing halfway up the stairs. He gave me a hug and then just held on and didn’t let me go. He whispered in my ear “I can’t wait anymore” and knelt down on one knee right then and there. Turns out he had forgotten the ring at home and had spent the entire trip to Vancouver kicking himself. He did it the second we got home.

How do you like to spend time together: We like to cook and hike and explore new places. We share a love of history and travel and love taking trips together to explore the world. Day to day we enjoy trying new restaurants, cooking new things, walking through the forest park by our house, and hanging out with friends. Really, we like to spend our time together doing absolutely anything, as long as we’re together.

Wedding theme/motif/what inspired your style: We didn’t really have a specific theme, but I wanted the wedding to be a reflection of both of our lives and personalities. From his Peruvian heritage to his love of soccer, and from my Northern Irish background and love of highland dancing, we tried to pepper both our ceremony and reception with little things we would recognize and appreciate. Highland Cathedral was our processional, we had soccer teams as our table numbers, pisco sours and Peruvian food were included in our meal, and we had Peruvian lilies, bells of ireland, and lots of heather in our floral arrangements

Your best moment/most expected moment: Every moment could be considered a best moment, but the most memorable was the moment I was far enough down the aisle for Sergio and I to see each other. Everyone was looking at me, but I was looking at Sergio and I caught his amazing reaction to seeing me. He gasped, closed his eyes, and put his hand to his heart. I could feel the love radiating between us

Wedding song, explain choice for song: Thinking out Loud (Spanish version) – We danced to a beautiful Spanish rendition of Thinking out Loud as a compromise to his wanting to dance to something in Spanish and my wanting to dance to a song that I knew and could understand. It was beautiful and perfect for us.

Favourite wedding detail (favours, cake, food, band, etc.): It’s hard to pick a favorite. The meal was exquisite from start to finish, the flowers were absolutely stunning and such a perfect reflection of both of us with the Peruvian lilies, sunflowers (his favorite), heather, and bells of Ireland, and our wedding favours were so unique and special. We had hand painted boxes made by an artist in Peru that each show a different little Peruvian scene.

Honeymoon or dream place to go: We’re honeymooning in Paris and in Italy, but it’s just one of many trips we have planned for the future

How did a wedding go? Absolutely perfectly

What was most emotional, best and describe your day to future brides. It’s hard to describe. You build this day up in your mind and you go through so much planning and organizing to pull it all together. When the day finally comes it’s the most overwhelmingly loving day from start to finish. The people that love you most in the world have come together to share your joy and you can feel it. It’s like you’re lifted up by this cloud of good wishes and loving thoughts and it carries you through the day. I’ve never felt so beautiful and so loved all at the same time. It goes by so quickly, try to stop and take a deep breath after each big event during the day and reflect on how good it was. It’s easy to forget the details so take a minute to try and lock them in your mind.

Make-up Artist: DK Envy, artist: Sarah. Sarah was amazing. I didn’t give her much to go on when I described my thoughts for my makeup. I just wanted to look polished and beautiful on my wedding day. Sarah delivered. The makeup she was using is Jane Iredale. It lasted the entire day, no touch ups or reapplications required. No makeup running down my face or transferring to anyone’s clothes. I was amazed at how well it lasted and how gorgeous Sarah made me look. Between my hair and makeup I had never felt so beautiful. The girls at DK Envy are all amazing, accommodating, professional, and happy to help you create the look you want or just take their best ideas and run with it.

Flowers: Absolutely stunning floral arrangements by Ceile Feigs. She was recommended to us by a friend as a retired florist who still enjoyed doing weddings. After one meeting I knew she was going to be perfect. She was so helpful in picking the flowers and in helping my eclectic tastes come together in beautiful arrangements that blew us all away. We received so many compliments on her work, and the staff at Priddis commented that they had never seen their venue looking so beautiful and could she come and work for them?! She went above and beyond her role as a florist and helped us cart gifts back to the house, arranged for the additional linen rentals, and kept us all sane during the week before the wedding when stress levels are high, and to do lists are getting longer and longer. We couldn’t have done it without her help and guidance.
