Genesia and Scott – Extraordinary, Vintage Elegance Wedding

Scott is 36 years old, from Abbey SK. After several years of professional hockey in the Eastern hockey league, he now works as a National Account Manager within Pepsi-co Foods. Genesia is 31 years old, from Chatham ON. She currently works as a Special Education teacher in an early intervention school in Calgary.

How did you meet?: Scott and I met online! We both joined E-Harmony and Match.com and out of everyone i was ever matched with, he was the only man i was matched on BOTH sites with! We chatted for a few weeks before I finally took the plunge to actually meet him and we met up for drinks at Earl’s.

Scott had set up a “scavenger hunt” for me throughout Calgary. He told me to go upstairs to the spare room 15 minutes after he left the house, claiming he was going to see his parents. I went upstairs and saw he’d laid out a black dress for me to wear along with a letter and a gift bag. Inside the gift bag was a couple of beautiful bangle bracelets and in the letter he had poured his heart out to me, telling me how much he loves me and how he wanted to spend forever with me. This letter then told me to head to the place where we had our first date. I got in the car and drove to Earl’s where there was a reservation under his name. When i was lead to the table I found another gift bag and letter waiting for me. Another beautiful gift in the bag and the letter was more outpouring of love, memories of our first date. This letter then explained to go to the spot of our second date, Bar C on 17 Ave. I drove down there and again, walked in to find another gift bag and letter waiting for me. More memories of this date were written out and another little gift. This letter told me to go to the place of our 3rd date, Una, also on 17 ave. I headed to Una, another gift bag and letter waiting. This date was by far the best of any, as it was one full of deeper, more intimate conversation, and our first kiss. In this final letter I was directed to “our place” in Calgary, where we love to go for cocktails together, Vin Room, in Mission. I drove there and was led upstairs where Scott was waiting for me, along with a friend of ours to take pictures and capture this intimate moment together. Scott said a lot of beautiful things to me, most of which is unfortunately a blur for me to remember, before getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him! Of course I said YES! We spent the rest of the evening have a few drinks at Vin Room and then he took me to a beautiful restaurant in Kensington where we had a gorgeous dinner and wine. After dinner we went back to Bar C to enjoy our favourite dessert (creme brule) and bubbly wine before heading back to his brother’s house where his family was waiting for us to congratulate us! IT was one of the best days of my entire life!

How do you like to spend time together:  we love cooking and enjoying wine together, we love sitting out on our patio and listening to jazz music. We also love attending sporting events together

Wedding theme/motif/what inspired your style: rustic, vintage, romantic. Lots of Pinterest inspirtation from other people who’d had weddings with a similar style to ours!

Your best moment/most expected moment: walking up the isle to see Scott waiting for me with just as big of a smile on his face as I had on mine!

Wedding song, explain choice for song:  Songbird by Ines G (Glee inspiration); Scott heard it ages ago when watching “Glee” and really loved it, so when I gave him the responsibility of choosing our first dance song, that was what he went with and I loved every moment of it!

Favourite wedding detail (favours, cake, food, band, etc.):  We absolutely loved our dessert station. We had a gorgeous cake for us to do the traditional cake cutting, but instead of serving that for guests, we ordered in gourmet donuts from Jelly Modern Donuts. We had so many compliments!!

Honeymoon or dream place to go:  We are hoping to go to St. Lucia for our honeymoon, or somewhere in the vicinity. Our dream is to see crystal blue waters!

How did a wedding go? What was most emotional, best and describe your day to future brides.

The wedding day was absolutely perfect in my eyes, it was everything and more to what I had envisioned. I did a great deal of the decorating/planning myself so to see it all come to fruition with the help of my talented decorator was so rewarding. The most emotional part of the day for me was walking up the isle to meet Scott and standing there with him. I got emotional saying our vows to one another and just looking at him to know I was blessed to have found an amazing man to call my husband, it was very overwhelming. We had a fabulous ceremony, a beautiful reception and super fun dance party! My biggest piece of advice for future brides is to just trust and believe that all the pieces fall into place. Some things may not go 100% according to plan, but only you are the one to know if the wrong song was played for your bridesmaids to walk up the isle to. Just remember the bigger picture: you are there to commit yourself to someone else, so as long as he shows up, your officiant shows up and you have your wedding certificate, nothing else matters!!!! J
